Motivating and Inspiring the Disabled

Our mission is to motivate people confined to a wheelchair to become more productive in their personal and professional lives. We believe that a productive disabled person is generally more content and has greater self-esteem. This site tells the stories of people who, by being productive and active, have been able to enjoy their lives despite their physical disabilities. Being productive and active creates opportunities to generate the income needed to live a comfortable and more relaxed lifestyle. It will open doors to recreational and travel opportunities, and long-lasting and fulfilling relationships. We provide tips on how to become more productive and feature products that help you to accomplish those goals as a physically challenged person.

Who We Are

Luc

Luc became disabled as a C5/C6 quadriplegic in 1987 as the result of a diving accident. He had just recently been married and had a 10-week-old son.

Seeing his son inspired him to return to work and support his family no matter how difficult it seemed at the time.

Upon returning to work and experiencing support from his co-workers, Luc realized that making the decision to be productive was absolutely the right one, as his self-esteem and outlook improved tremendously. What he realized is that though his body may have been disabled, his mind was not, and he could put it to good use.

Since his accident, Luc has changed employers three times, been promoted a few times, learned to drive again with adaptive equipment, moved from one side of the country to the other, been divorced and remarried, had two service dogs, traveled quite a bit including a few trips to Europe, has gone on several cruises, learned to stand up again using a standing chair, and just lately acquired a camper van which will allow him and his wife to stay overnight in our National Parks.

This website is Luc’s way of giving back to the disabled community, a way to inspire others, and a way to share some of the things he has learned over the last twenty years. He would like nothing more than to see all disabled persons succeed in their lives.

Shari

Shari and Luc married in 1998, and she is the inspiration behind Disabled and Producitve. Without her resourcefulness and countless hours of research on solutions for Luc, this web site would not be possible. Many of Luc’s productivity solutions and improvements are the result of work she has done.

Shari is also very familiar with the disabled community; she founded and runs a non-profit corporation that trains assistance dogs for people with disabilities, helping them to become more independent. Luc was paired with his first assistance dog through Shari’s nonprofit.

Aaron

When Aaron (Luc’s stepson) heard Shari and Luc talk about their thoughts on a website for the disabled community, he thought it was a great idea and knew he wanted to help.

He does the layout, design, and administration of the website, along with content editing. He asks you to forgive him for any spelling or grammatical errors you may find (though he does his best) and invites you to share your thoughts or questions about anything here by leaving a comment on any story.
