Custom Sprinter Wheelchair Conversion Van Can Also Be Used as a Camper
Recently we filmed a video with Luc showing how his Dodge Sprinter conversion van can be used as both a wheelchair passenger van and a camper alternative to an expensive and gas-guzzling motor home. The van is equipped with a wheelchair lift and an EZ-lock system to securely lock a wheelchair in the passenger side of the van. The van has a few basic camper facilities such as a microwave, a refrigerator, a sink, a water tank with an external water hookup for refilling at a campground, a ceiling fan, storage cabinets, window shades, 110V electrical power outlet and two solar panels on top of the roof to keep the batteries charged. There is room for two people to sleep in the back of the van and a ceiling lift makes it easy to do transfers between a wheelchair and the bed.
Luc and his wife have two dogs that can safely come along for the ride because there is room underneath one of the beds to secure two dog crates. The Sprinter van is quite a bit larger than standard minivans, which leaves Luc some room to maneuver around in his wheelchair, something he hasn’t been able to in any other van.
Watch the video below to check out the interior of the conversion van and the wheelchair accessible features. And for more information read our earlier article about Camping in a Dodge Sprinter Van.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share all of the great things that you are doing. My husband and I are looking at Sprinters at this time and are interested in the camper conversions. We have an adult daughter who lives with us who has limited mobility. We currently have a mini van with an EZ lock system to get her around. We are limited to local trips. I am interested in the interior hoyer style lift that you had installed. Did you install that yourself or is there a company that did it for you? Can they be purchased to be installed or are they custom made by someone? We are looking forward to being able to get away for longer trips if we can get all the details figured out.
I appreciate your help!
Hi Judy,
Great to hear that you are exploring the Sprinter van as an option for overnight travel! The lift system comes from http://mobil-eze.com/ and was installed by http://sportsmobile.com/.
Thanks again for your input. We have already communicated with Sportsmobile and I will check on the website for the lift!
Luc,
Great video, thanks for sharing. I had an older model Sprinter and had a power door and lift installed. From day 1 it was a complete pain to keep operational. I want a new one since I don’t like the replacement minivan I got but want to have a quality power door opener installed. What brand is your door opener and did Sportmobile install the power door and entry lift (as well as the track lift system mentioned earlier)??
Thanks in advance.
Brian
Hi Brian,
The entry lift and the automatic door system were installed by http://www.norcalmobility.com/
